Stone Writing

Beach pebbles, text, audio system, generative sound program.
_ Timothy Crowley Participants are holding the pebble that they had selected and transmuted into sound to take home.

The audience are invited to write or sound onto a pebble with the pen stone, keeping the pebble afterwards. A contact mic attached to the pen stone amplifies the rocky scrapes, swooshes and knocks referencing the invisible shapes being drawn.

These live sounds are added to a generative composition using the audio program Supercollider 3 and include an ambient musical aspect inspired by slot machine sounds from a family amusement arcade near where the pebbles were collected.

The pebbles were collected from Newlyn beach where the artist also performed and recorded an audio work involving piling pebbles up on the beach and is periodically heard within the installation's composition.
